Event Description

Debating skills equip JCI members to resolve conflicts, respect differences, overcome obstacles and advocate the message of local and global impact. Each year at the JCI Area Conferences and JCI World Congress, national teams contend for the title of JCI World Debating Champions. Discussing topics that range from profound to comical, contestants argue their truth, relevance and accuracy.

The training starts with an introduction on the tips & tricks and the JCI rules of debating. Teams with opposing viewpoints will debate about resolutions. Each debate is opened with speeches in which the teams bring their arguments in a structured way. Then, arguments will have to be opposed, defended, repaired or improved in order to prevail over the opponent and convince the audience…

JCI THOE and JCI Brussel invite you to enhance and exercise your debating skills. Whether you plan on representing Belgium in the international events or not, debating skills will open many doors in your private life.

Programme:

As of 9:30 > welcome coffee

10:00 (sharp!) - 13:00 > in the morning session, a certified JCI trainer and experienced debater Sylvie Micholt with support of a candidate trainer Nele Buysmans will introduce the theory of JCI Debating.

13:00 - 13:45 > lunch break

13:45 - 15:00/16:00 (depending on number of participants) > in the afternoon session, all participants will have an opportunity to test their debating skills through a competition. Attention! The best team will receive a prize!
